Pompano Seafood Festival

The 33rd Annual POMPANO BEACH SEAFOOD FESTIVAL is On The Beach, April 28-30. It is one of South Florida’s longest running and most popular outdoor festivals and 2017 is shaping up to be another great weekend.  “This is such a classic event celebrating why we all live in Florida,” says Festival manager John Good. “It is a magnificent setting on the beach at Atlantic Boulevard and literally offers something for everybody from kids to seniors. Great food, shopping and music along the ocean. That is hard to beat.”

It’s all about the seafood and this year’s festival offers more Seafood Vendors, with more varied menus. No matter what kind of seafood you like, or how you like it prepared, you are sure to find it. “We have a mix of our most popular long-time vendors along with several new vendors offering some new twists this year,” says Good. “All the food vendors are in one long row this year and it‘s going to be a fun stroll along Pompano Beach Boulevard to decide where to start. Be sure to take your time to check out all that is available.” Of course, there is plenty of non-seafood dishes and lots of treats.

Over 160 arts and crafts booths are set along Atlantic Blvd and Pompano Beach Blvd. The beachfront has been completely redeveloped over the last few years, making for a beautiful setting and an eclectic group of vendors offer everything from art to jewelry to clothing, to local services and everything in between.

Music continues to be a major focal point, anchored by rock Superstars “America” on Saturday night and featuring many of South Florida’s most popular bands. There are three stages, with more than thirty bands scheduled. Friday night on the north (Main) Stage is the fabulous Beatles Tribute Band “Across the Universe”. Throughout the weekend are top local bands with a mix of rock, blues, country, reggae and more. On Saturday, the Isle Casino South stage features Journey, Rush / Guns& Roses, and Tom Petty Tribute bands back to back.

Arc Artisan Program

SunFest is less than a month away (May 3-7) and the clients at The Arc of Palm Beach County are excited to unveil mosaics made exclusively for this annual event. Thanks to the collaboration of clients, staff, and hundreds of volunteers, The Arc has been able to craft more than 120 mosaics which will be sold at SunFest’s brand-new Art District.

A new mix of mosaics

During SunFest, festival goers can expect to find a new mix of mosaics, along with the ones you would typically find at The Arc’s Courim Center in Riviera Beach. The beautiful mix of marine life and hearts will be accompanied by guitars and sunbursts. The new designs were chosen to complement the popular music and art festival held every year at the downtown waterfront in West Palm Beach. The handmade pieces will be sold at The Arc’s booth at SunFest, along with a variety of other collectibles such as kitchen items, framed prints, note cards, flowerpots, and much more.

Mosaics SunFest

Mosaics for SunFest made by The Arc

It took several months to come up with the collection of mosaics to be sold at SunFest. Prices for the mosaics being sold during the event start as low as $10. A portion of the art sales directly benefit clients at The Arc of Palm Beach County. For every piece of artwork that is sold, the artisan that worked on the piece receives a commission, which enables them to earn a paycheck. It is the mission of The Arc of Palm Beach County to ensure that its clients have the opportunity to be as independent as possible through quality services, education, and advocacy for children and adults with developmental disabilities.

Clients in The Arc’s Artisan Program work year-round in a variety of media, including decorative mosaic art, painting, and sketching. Through this program, which is a part of the nonprofit’s Career Transition Program, clients learn how to market their artwork, speak to customers, and handle financial transactions.

During SunFest, The Arc is excited to unveil another major project that clients and volunteers have been working tirelessly on for the past few months. A large, 8-foot-tall, mosaic guitar that will be a focal point of the Art District.

To find out how you can get involved with The Arc, contact Shani Simpson by calling 561-842-3213 or email [email protected]
