Chinese Lantern Festival

Broward County’s Central Regional Park will host a new and spectacular family friendly event this holiday season, the Chinese Lantern Festival produced by Hanart Culture. The 8-week Lantern Festival is a totally immersive experience among Chinese culture, multi-hued “The Wild” animal lantern displays, live entertainment, authentic Chinese food, hand-made gifts by Chinese craftspeople, and more. The Festival doors will open Tuesday, November 21 at 5:30 p.m. and runs for an 8 week period, Thursday through Sunday evenings, until its Grand Closing Festivities on Monday, January 15, 2018.

The Chinese Lantern Festival is an unparalleled experience, a modern take on the ancient art of lantern-making. Twenty artists from China will be working on-site for weeks in a temporary ‘lantern factory’ to create exquisite scenes that include animals from throughout the world. This year’s theme of “The Wild” will feature amazing works of art in the form of different animals from lions to dinosaurs, giraffes to panda’s—even a herd of zebra’s will form dreamscapes of color and motion.

chinese acrobatIn addition to walking amid the lanterns, visitors can witness live kung fu performances and coaching by martial arts champions. Plus, traditional folk art demonstrations by 5 mainland China craftspeople. Keepsakes will be on sale to take home for memories.

Children also enjoy puppetry Shadowplay, dinosaur rides at Dinosaur Empire, and more. Day demonstration programs for children and groups will also be booked upon advance request.

This is the first year that Hanart Culture has brought its national touring event, the Chinese Lantern Festival to South Florida, and promises to amaze those of every age.

lanterns“We call these lanterns, but make no mistake these are not hand-held candle-lit lamps,” says event producer George Zhao. “From humble beginnings of silk and paper, the Chinese lantern has evolved into the wondrous shapes and sizes of our modern era. Our exquisite shapes are lit from within by thousands of LED bulbs, yet still made by hand of silks, satin and natural materials.”

This Friday morning, meet NBC 6 morning news hosts, enjoy free coffee and treats, along with a sneak peek of Bailey Contemporary Art’s newest exhibit, Frontiers and Beyond.  The TV news crew, along with representatives from radio station Y100, will be meeting and greeting Pompano Beach residents beginning at 9am.  The crew will be shooting b-roll of the exhibit during their visit on September 1st and then will go live on the 11 am news. *

“We are inviting everyone to enjoy this fabulous opportunity as NBC 6 visits our wonderful City,” said Jody Leshinsky, Cultural Executive Director of Bailey Contemporary Arts and Historic Ali Cultural Center. “This will be an exciting morning for our residents to meet some of their favorite news personalities, win concert tickets from Y100 and enjoy coffee with other residents in our emerging downtown.”

During the morning, artists will be setting up for the monthly Old Town Untapped event, which will also be the premier of the new exhibit, which is a collaboration with Ad Visual Arts Academy in Tehran, Iran. This global exhibit features ceramic and mixed media works that explores the idea of “Borders” versus “Frontiers.”

The first “Frontier” exhibition, from July 20, 2017 to August 3, 2017, was held in Khaneh-Honarmandan, Tehran, one of the most prestigious art centers in Iran. In addition to the Iran-based exhibit, four international curators were called to collaborate with a sub-theme of “Frontier,” and invite artists in their country to hold exhibitions. Sarah Benichou of BaCA was selected and has organized a prestigious array of artists to present.

“We are so honored that BaCA was chosen to be included in this outstanding global exhibit,” said Benichou. “I was asked by the Academy to put together an exhibit that shows how artists understand and grapple with the notion of “limitations,” be it physical or geographic borders, or material and medium.

Focusing on the characteristics of ceramics, the show looks to address the concerns of contemporary world, and how we are being limited, and at the same time challenged, to defy those limitations. The notion of borders is constraining, but in the United States the implication of “Frontier” is inspiring.”

Since the field of ceramics oscillates between art and craft with influences on painting and sculpture without a specific division between applied and visual arts, the Academy had decided that after its first ceramics-based exhibition “Breakable,” the theme for this year’s exhibition will be how artists can use ceramics.

Artists participating in the BaCA show include Linda Behar, Michael Boroniec, Giannina Dwin, Stephen Futej, Sibel Kocabasi, Anja Marais, Jessica Putnam Phillips, Cherie Saleeby, Anthony Stellaccio. In this exhibition, conceptual works will be comprised fully of ceramic materials, or from different media, including painting, photography, sculpture, installation, performance and time-based arts, with ceramics integrated into the creation, and execution process.

Other countries participating in this global initiative include Japan, Turkey and France.

The Ad Visual Arts Academy, established in 2014, offers a wide variety of art classes such as theory of art, painting and ceramics in which the latter has been their area of expertise. The Academy has put this project out to galleries worldwide, in the hopes of connecting and uniting cultures through a theme that can be interpreted in many different ways

Broll is the extra footage captured to enrich the story you’re telling and to have greater flexibility when editing. Instead of featuring only talking heads on video, you want to have other images you can cut away to that will add dimension to your story. (source: contentmarketinginstitute.com)
