Biscuit Fest
The Funky Biscuit hosts the 6th Annual Biscuit Fest on Thursday March 30th through Sunday April 2nd in Boca Raton. Biscuit Fest 6 presents a wide variety of styles including extreme funk, soul, R&B, jazz, jam and blues which represents the overall eclecticism that is brought to South Florida audiences by The Funky Biscuit week after week. The artists presented are some of the biggest names on the national scene! This year Biscuit Fest 6 has a stacked lineup including:
THURSDAY, MARCH 30TH – ERIC KRASNO BAND
Biscuit Fest 6 kicks off with the Eric Krasno Band at The Funky Biscuit with special guests Lemon City Trio! For nearly two decades, Eric Krasno has been an omnipresent figure in popular music. We’ve heard his virtuous, innovative guitar playing with Soulive and Lettuce (both of which he co-founded), seen him onstage supporting the likes of the The Rolling Stones and The Roots, watched him take home multiple GRAMMY Awards, and benefited from his deft, behind-the-scenes work as a producer and songwriter for everyone from Norah Jones, Tedeschi Trucks Band, and 50 Cent to Talib Kweli, Aaron Neville, and Allen Stone. Most recently Krasno has released a rousing new solo album ‘Blood From A Stone’ and reveals a previously unknown and utterly compelling side of his artistry.
Main SqueezeFRIDAY, MARCH 31 – THE MAIN SQUEEZE
The Main Squeeze is a raging funk experience born within the thriving live music scene of Bloomington, Indiana. Since coming together in late 2009 The Main Squeeze have managed to establish a unique sound and identity in a short period of time. The Main Squeeze is like mid 70’s Stevie Wonder meets the Red Hot Chili Peppers. A band that pumps out a seamless groove that blends equal parts soul, funk and rock ‘n’ roll and delivers soulful vocals, intricate jams, tight grooves and powerful solos. Picture that and you have a pretty good idea of what THE MAIN SQUEEZE will bring when they throw down on the second night of Biscuit Fest 6!
The third night of Biscuit fest 6 brings Oteil Burbridge’s Bureau Of Sabotage! This is an incredible supergroup of stellar musicians that features on bass Oteil Burbridge (Allman Brothers Band, Dead & Company., Col.Bruce Hampton and The Aquarium Rescue Unit), on guitar John Kadlecik (Dark Star Orchestra, Furthur, Phil Lesh & Friends), on keyboards Aron Magner (The Disco Biscuits) and on drums Jeff Franca (Theivery corporation). Also on the bill, very special guests local faves Crazy Fingers to get the evening started!

The Pompano Beach Amp and AEG Live are proud to present the legendary Buddy Guy. The 80 year old singer/guitarist a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, a major influence on rock titans like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, a pioneer of Chicago’s fabled West Side sound, and a living link to the city’s halcyon days of electric blues. Opening for Guy will be  blues super group, The Rides.

The list of accolades that Buddy Guy has received could fill pages, but here are a few highlights: 7 GRAMMY Awards, a 2015 Lifetime Achievement GRAMMY Award, 34 Blues Music Awards (the most any artist has received), The Billboard Magazine Century Award for distinguished artistic achievement, a Kennedy Center Honor, and the Presidential National Medal of Arts.  In addition, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked him #23 in its “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.”

Still influencing the musical landscape, Buddy Guy released his brand new studio album “Born To Play Guitar” on July 31, 2015 via Silvertone/RCA Records, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Blues Albums chart.  This was a follow-up to his 2013 first-ever double disc release, “Rhythm & Blues,” which also debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Blues Albums chart.

Though Buddy Guy will forever be associated with Chicago, his story actually begins in Louisiana. One of five children, he was born in 1936 to a sharecropper’s family and raised on a plantation near the small town of Lettsworth, located some 140 miles northwest of New Orleans. Buddy was just seven years old when he fashioned his first makeshift “guitar”—a two-string contraption attached to a piece of wood and secured with his mother’s hairpins.

In 1957, he took his guitar to Chicago, where he would permanently alter the direction of the instrument, first on numerous sessions for Chess Records playing alongside Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, and the rest of the label’s legendary roster, and then on recordings of his own. His incendiary style left its mark on guitarists from Jimmy Page to John Mayer. “He was for me what Elvis was probably like for other people,” said Eric Clapton at Guy’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2005. “My course was set, and he was my pilot.”

Seven years later, July 2012 proved to be one of Buddy Guy’s most remarkable years ever. He was awarded the 2012 Kennedy Center Honor for his lifetime contribution to American culture; earlier in the year, at a performance at the White House, he even persuaded President Obama to join him on a chorus of “Sweet Home Chicago.” Also in 2012, he published his long-awaited memoir, When I Left Home.

Opening for Guy, will be The Rides, whose recent album charted # 1 on The Billboard Blues charts. The super group consists of Stephen Stills (of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young), multi-award winner Kenny Wayne Shepherd, who holds the record for the longest running album on the Billboard Blues chart and Barry Goldberg, who has played alongside everyone from Muddy Waters to Bob Dylan.

Concert date: Thursday, 4/6/2017, 8pm

Tickets: $39.50 to $99.50

Frank Ward

This March, add some good ol’ spice to your weeknight with home-cooked classics, cold suds, and plenty of mega-smooth blues during Blue Tuesdays at the award-winning beachfront hot spot Boston’s on the Beach. Blue Tuesdays also features great food and drink specials, including the boozy Nucklebuster Smash cocktail, Boston’s very own A1A IPA, juicy burgers, jumbo chicken wings, and its signature, double-fisted lobster rolls.

Hosted by “Famous” Frank Ward, Blue Tuesdays’ performances include:

Frank Bang

Frank Bang & The Cook County Kings

March 14: Frank Bang and The Cook County Kings – Born and raised in Chicago, front man Frank Bang credits his melodic success to the legendary Buddy Guy. “It was incredible jamming with Buddy every night for five years,” recalls Bang. “Touring every summer with B.B. King, seeing the world, and playing with your idols. It was an amazing experience.” The Cook County Kings feature Brian “BJ” Jones on drums, Andre Howard on bass guitar, Donnie Nichilo on piano, and Russ Green on the harmonica.

March 21: Captain Reese and Son of Man – Singer and bass player, Captain Reese’s blues renditions ooze vintage cool. Kat Riggins

Kat Riggins

March 28: Kat Riggins – “I thank God that my passion is my purpose, which is to help preserve this endangered species called ‘The Blues,’” says Kat Riggins, about her love for the genre. From an early age, Riggins was drawn to the smoky, gritty sounds of legendary female artists like Bessie Smith, Nina Simone, Etta James, and Koko Taylor. Born in Miami, Florida, Kat started singing jazz and blues standards in her early 20s, and went on to create a rich, lyrical style that melds blues, hip-hop, and pop with gospel and country. “I sing about raw emotion,” Kat says. “If I can move someone to feel what I feel, it’s all worth it.”

Blue Tuesdays’ performances on the Boston’s stage are from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., every Tuesday evening. No cover. For more information about Blue Tuesdays’ performances, please visit us online at bostonsonthebeach.com/bluetuesdays.

friday night sound waves

Get ready to slide off your shoes and slip into the weekend. With the sand and waves of Fort Lauderdale Beach in the background, the free Friday Night Sound Waves Live Music Series returns to the “Beach Hub” on the corner of Las Olas Boulevard and A1A. The first concert kicks  off on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 6 p.m.  The series will open with a high-energy performance by one of South Florida’s favorite Motown and R&B bands, Pocket Change, followed by a wide array of musical genres every Friday night, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., through November 10, 2017.

Special highlights over the 36-weeks include performances by rising stars on the Country music scene, Farewell Angelina, on April 7, the Shane Duncan Band on May 5 for the official Fort Lauderdale Air Show welcome concert, and returning performances from crowd pleasers, Mr. Nice Guy, Joel DaSilva and the Midnight Howl, Tom Sartori and Spred the Dub.

“We had fantastic feedback on our performer selection during our inaugural season in 2016, and with such and incredible local talent pool, it was challenging to narrow down this year’s lineup,” said Friday Night Sound Waves producer, Arianne Glassman. “We think our faithful fans and those new to discover the series are going to be really pleased with our final selection. After a four month hiatus, we’re just ready to welcome our community of friends, neighbors and global visitors back to the beach every Friday night.”

The Hub, which is situated 1.3 miles from the 17 Street Causeway to the south and 1.4 miles from Sunrise Boulevard to the north, serves as the heart of the Fort Lauderdale Beach “island.”
