The fifth annual South Florida Crawfish Festival, presented by CrawDebauchery, will take place, one day only, Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater Field, beginning at 11am and continuing past nightfall at 10pm. Event founder/organizer Don Matthews said the festival will once again bring a distinct New Orleans flavor to South Florida. As with previous years, the event will feature a Gumbo Rumble, Krewe Competition and a massive crawfish boil. There will also be an area for kids complete with crawfish races, face painting and jugglers. Additionally, top tier musicians and bands will be performing throughout the day including world famous “The Struts” and New Orleans singers/songwriters Anders Osborne and Maggie Koerner.
From Derby, Derbyshire, England, the band’s influences include Queen, The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith and Def Leppard. Formed in 2012, The Struts opened for The Rolling Stones in Paris before releasing their first album. They were also hand-picked by Mötley Crüe to serve as the supporting act for their four last-ever performances. Of late, the group has been touring with the Foo Fighters.
“We’re excited to have a band like The Struts headline the 2018 CrawDebauchery Food & Music Festival,” said event founder/organizer Don Matthews. “They have a great following and their shows are really something to see.” Everybody Wants was the band’s debut studio album in 2014 and it immediately received positive reviews in the United Kingdom. Their first U.S. EP release came in 2015 – Have You Heard – which produced the single “Could Have Been Me.” It hit number one on Spotify’s Viral Top 50, number four on the iTunes rock singles chart and landed in the top five on the U.S. alternative and active rock charts.
Anders Osborne and Maggie Koerner
Country music superstar Tim McGraw scored a number one hit with an Osborne song – “Watch The Wind Blow By” – and other compositions have been covered by such artists as Brad Paisley, Jonny Lang, Edwin McCain, Aaron Neville and Kim Carnes. Osborne has toured virtually non-stop, either with his own band, as a solo artist, or as a guest with such notable performers as Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes and The Grateful Dead’s Phil Lesh. His latest release, Flower Box, was his second full-length album of 2016.
Koerner, a Shreveport, Louisiana native, will be making a return trip to Pompano Beach after staging sizzling shows at the 2016 and 2017 festivals. The former front-woman for the New Orleans funk-band Galactic, her albums include, Neutral Ground (2013), Quarter Life (2011) and Dig Down Deep (2016). It’s not uncommon to find Koerner performing with iconic acts like Widespread Panic, Gov’t Mule and Charles Bradley. She has performed with her own band at a number of festivals including the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Austin City Limits and the Pemberton Music Festival.
