The City of Pompano Beach is delighted to announce that The Pompano Beach Cultural Center, located at 50 W. Atlantic Blvd. officially opens to the public on the weekend of May 11 – 14. The Cultural Center will be the new home to 11 South Florida regional companies ranging from dance to music to theater. In addition, the Center will host performances by nationally acclaimed musicians and exhibits by esteemed artists. Be the first to experience this amazing new center and the World Premiere Cuban art exhibit, Shipwrecked of Reason during opening weekend as fun-filled events will be held to suit each and everyone’s tastes. The World Premiere Cuban art exhibit, Shipwrecked of Reason, will be on view at all events, however a special celebration for this will exhibit will take place during Havana Nights on Saturday, May 13th.
Thurs May 11 – Ribbon Cutting Followed by Imagine
Guests will be invited to explore the Center and experience Imagine. Renowned playwright and director Michael McKeever, in conjunction with Kevin Black Productions, have prepared an array of surprises with live spontaneous performances throughout the building. Participants in the evening’s festivities include Cirquesco, Florida’s Singing Sons Boy Choir, Brazilian duo Rose Max and Ramatis Moraes, Grammy nominated trumpeter, Ed Calle and much more!
Admission is Free and open to the public starting at 5pm
Friday, May 12 -The Preview Party
The Preview Party, proudly sponsored by Sabbia Beach and presented by Pompano! Magazine, will also have the winning touch of Michael McKeever and Kevin Black Productions with performances by Cirquesco, world premiere short plays by McKeever, dancing the night away to Little Jake and the Soul Searchers, plus food, cocktails, live auctions and many more surprises. Doors open at 7pm.

Saturday, May 13 – Havana Nights
Havana Nights, presented by JetBlue on Saturday, May 13 will feature the music of two-time Grammy Award winner Marlow Rosado and his 12-piece band, along with tours of Shipwrecked of Reason: Half a Century in Cuban Art, a world premiere collection of work from the top 20 Cuban contemporary artists. This exhibit is curated by the internationally renowned Isabel María Pérez Pérez and presented in partnership with the Latin American Art Pavilion (LAAP). The event will feature jazz trios and quartets, signature drinks and food. The VIP reception begins at 7pm, general admission 8pm,

Sunday, May 14 – Florida Grand Opera
Finally, on Sunday, May 14 at 1 p.m., bring the family to the free FGO Family Day presented by the Florida Grand Opera. Opera fans – young and old – new to the genre or opera aficionados – can come and explore the world of opera through hands on activities, live performances, interactive experiences, and the thrill of live theater.
