The City of Pompano Beach will kick off the holiday season on Saturday, December 1st with the 9th Annual Light Up MLK for the Holidays event featuring live musical performances, a visit from Santa, a beautiful tree lighting ceremony and an array of holiday cheer. Attendees will be treated with free hot dogs, but other food options will be available for purchase from local neighborhood favorites, including Bojo’s Seafood and McMillon’s Bar-B-Que.
“Light Up MLK is a fun and festive event for the entire family,” said Phyllis Korab, Pompano Beach Cultural Affairs Department director. “This celebration is our kick-off to the holiday season and a special night to remember with our neighbors and loved ones!”
There will be a variety of activities taking place during the event including Santa’s arrival along with live performances by community favorites Ashanti Cultural Arts, the Blanche Ely Jazz band and the Broward Sheriff’s Office Jazz Band. The five-piece Blue Boy Band will also take the stage for an engaging session of blues, jazz and holiday classics, followed by DJ Miami Harold.
Of course, the highlight of the evening is always the tree lighting ceremony. This year, a magnificent 32-footer will take centerstage as Mayor Rex Hardin and other community leaders welcome everyone to experience this dazzling moment!
Activities begin at 5pm with Santa’s arrival, 7pm tree lighting
